Today is not a day for political statements. It is a day for gratitude, for memory, for recognition of a group of people that serves their country in a completely committed kind of way.
Dear Canadian soldiers, past and present, and your families,
Thank you for making sacrifices always, serving your country, and contributing to the world in the way that you do.
Know that although we dedicate this day to remembering you specifically, your work and your sacrifice is appreciated every day.
One of many grateful Canadians
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders Fields, the poppies grow,
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky,
The larks still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amidst the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow.
Loved, and were loved,
And now we lie, in Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe,
To you from failing hands we throw,
The torch; be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow,
In Flanders Fields.
